It is also quoted that the issue is related to a bug in Android. How to disable Microphone access to WhatsApp
The process is real simple and can be done in both Android and iOS. If you are installing WhatsApp now then the microphone access can be denied during the setup itself or else if it’s already installed then there are a few settings to be changed.

All popular messaging apps like Telegram and WhatsApp ask for various permissions during setup, and we must be careful before giving yes to all.
- Unlock your Android or iPhone
- Open settings app.
In Android, you may need to find the Apps option and click on it, when it comes to iOS all the apps will be listed inside settings page itself. Once you have found the app on Android or iOS, follow the steps below.
- Click on WhatsApp from the App list.
- Here you will find all the permissions provided fro WhatsApp on the phone.
- In the list there will be an option called “Microphone”.
- Turn OFF The toggle and the permission will be disabled for WhatsApp.
Doing this will block WhatsApp from accessing the microphone of your phone in the background, which will make it more secure. One thing to note here is that, if you need to make calls or send voice messages, WhatsApp will again ask for the microphone access.
